A Study on Gender Equality and Women's Potential for Sustainable Development in Thailand's MSME Food and Beverage Sector

May, 27 2026

This study examines gender equality and business sustainability dynamics among MSMEs in Thailand's food and beverage sector, with a particular focus on women-owned and women-led MSMEs.

Thai women entrepreneurs hold prominent leadership positions and leverage strengths in empathy and resilience. However, significant indirect barriers persist, such as unpaid care work, informality, sexual harassment and workplace discrimination. The historical lack of a gender-specific focus in government policy has created significant gaps in support and data collection.

The future growth of Thai SMEs requires a paradigm shift from viewing women through a "social welfare" lens to high-potential economic agents.
